As I was nearing completion of this series of pages dealing with the current usage of Laurel Hill Tunnel,  Russell Love, who founded and operates the South Penn Railroad website, sent me the following pictures that he took on a visit to Laurel Hill over Christmas 2005.  The top picture was taken above the eastern portal of the tunnel.  Off in the distance you can see the current alignment of the turnpike.  The bottom picture shows the water tank above the eastern portal.  If you find the tank, you have found the portal.  A lot of people use this as a landmark to know when they are close to finding the portal.  Thanks again Russell.
