The trail is now being known as the Super Highway Trail.  Look for it under the "our projects" tab.

Dennis Fariello invites you to visit his website.  As of September 2005, Dennis has taken and posted the most recent pictures from Ray's Hill, Sideling Hill, and the old roadway; as well as other locations along the old turnpike.  Dennis took two trips in very different weather conditions.  You will enjoy his photos.

"on Saturday, October 16, 2004, 18 members of the 2004 SWPA meet got to experience something that the public hasn't been able to do since 1968... driving the abandoned turnpike.  Members of the meet toured both of the abandoned tunnels (Ray's Hill and Sideling Hill), the abandoned Cove Valley service plaza, and got some insight on the origins of the abandoned South Penn Railroad... who's right-of-way and tunnels that were mostly built in 1885 were adapted and reconstructed to serve the turnpike in 1937."

Visit Tom's Pennsylvania Turnpike Website.  With Tom as your guide, you will embark on a photo tour of the abandoned roadway, starting with the western end.  You will see photos of an original toll booth, Oregon Road, State Route 1011, Ray's Hill tunnel, etc.  Tom has the only photos of State Route 1011 and Oregon Road that I have found so far on the web.

Visit Michael G. Koerner's website.  Michael's site offers guests topographical maps that are well annotated, as well as several pictures not found commonly on the Internet.  He also offers a good explanation of what is right and completely wrong with the I-70/I-76/U.S. 30 interchange in Breezewood, Pennsylvania.

Check out Brian Troutman's website.  Brian's website is excellent, well-written and includes maps with good details.  His site offers what I consider to be the best directions on the Internet with regards to visiting the old roadway and the tunnels.  Others have noted using Brian's directions and finding exactly what they are looking for.
